Jennifer Lawrence's fans want her added to Best Hero category for MTV Movie Awards
Jennifer Lawrence's fans have launched a petition to get her name added to the list of nominees in the Best Hero category for the 2014 MTV Movie Awards.
The group is upset that Katniss Everdeen, the actress' character in the The Hunger Games, was not included in the list alongside Henry Cavill (Man of Steel), Channing Tatum (White House Down), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man 3), Chris Hemsworth (Thor: The Dark World) and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug).
A post on ThePetitionSite.com reads: "There is not a single woman
in the Hero's category. Don't let a strong woman like Katniss be
overlooked...! Young women already have too few female heroes
represented in film and television.
"We're constantly shown by the entertainment industry that men are
brave, powerful, or successful, while women are often given
supporting roles and weak characters."
The campaign has already garnered over 10,000 signatures and has
until Friday (14Mar14) to reach its goal of 11,000.
Meanwhile, Lawrence is nominated for Best Female Performance, Best
Fight and Best Kiss at the upcoming MTV Movie Awards.
The winners will be announced at the prizegiving in Los Angeles on
13 April (14).
