Jenna Dewan Tatum apprehensive about raising daughter in social media age

Jenna Dewan Tatum is extremely aware that her daughter Everly will have a tougher time growing up because of social media.

The Step Up actress shares her four-year-old daughter with husband Channing Tatum, and she knows in several years' time, Everly will be on social media and having to deal with more criticism than many youngsters because she has famous parents.

"There (are) definitely apprehensions I have about raising a child in the new social media day and age. There's no guide book," she told People at the New York Fashion Week Young Living Essential Oils event last week (ends10Sep17). "We're starting to see now how that's affecting young people."

They have created a plan to help build Everly's confidence and self-esteem so she won't be as easily affected by the comments she reads about herself online.

"Starting early and starting to build her confidence in her true authenticity and herself is important," the dancer added. "Because then when the influences come in that will try and tell her, 'You're not great' and 'You're not amazing,' she'll have that strong sense of reminding."

Jenna added, "I try and teach her to be an individual and find things she's good at... and facilitating these things so her confidence builds at a young age."

The 36-year-old also told US Weekly that Everly sees herself as her mum's stylist and likes to give feedback about what she should be wearing.

"She comes to my fittings with (stylist) Brad (Goreski) and she totally voices her opinions," notes Jenna. "She always likes sparkles, of course. But sometimes she tells us we need different shoes!"

Her daughter also has a strong sense of identity, takes charge of her own wardrobe and puts together "very funky" clothes.
