Jared Followill releases side project's first single

Jared Followill has unveiled the debut single from his new side project.

The Kings of Leon bassist formed Smoke + Jackal with his pal Nick Brown last winter (11) and he's now released their first track online.

Alerting fans to the news in a post on Twitter.com, he writes, "Here is Smoke + Jackal's first single 'No Tell'! Enjoy!"

The pair started coming up with song ideas over bottles of red wine and decided to hit the studio together at Brown's Nashville, Tennessee home.

Mona rocker Brown says, "It was all about tone and vibe and what felt right in that moment. Not second guessing, just having fun in that moment."

And Followill admits the making of their upcoming EP worked because they were both open to new ideas: "Coming together just worked. I think it's because we took such an easy approach to it, we didn't bring any egos to it. We just talked about each other's ideas, neither one of us got our feelings hurt."

Kings of Leon have been on a hiatus since wrapping up their Australian tour last November (11) and the Sex on Fire hitmakers have been keeping busy focusing on their personal lives.

Caleb Followill and his model wife Lily Aldridge became first-time parents this summer (12); drummer Nathan announced in June (12) that he and his singer spouse Jessie Baylin are expecting a baby, and Jared became engaged to his model girlfriend Martha Patterson earlier this year (12).
