Jamie Bell injured himself dancing in new film

Billy Elliot star Jamie Bell injured himself while shooting a dance scene for his new movie Film Stars Don't Die In Liverpool.

In the film, Jamie plays Peter Turner, a struggling actor who forms an unlikely bond with veteran Hollywood leading lady Gloria Grahame, as portrayed by Annette Bening.

For the part, the 31-year-old had to utilize the skills that made him a star in Billy Elliot, the 2000 drama in which he played an 11-year-old boy determined to defy his father and take up ballet.

However, the actor tells chat show host Jonathan Ross in an interview set to air in the U.K. on Saturday (14Oct17), that he can no longer pull off energetic moves like he used to.

"I pulled the groin on that one. The knee was bruised. I don't have it in me anymore! It's gone, it's over," he explains.

Despite his injuries, the star says he'll continue to take on dance roles, but says they are few and far between.

"There's not a lot of roles for dancing," he adds. "I would definitely do another film with dancing in it. I love Fred Astaire, I'd love to do a Fred Astaire movie, that'd be great. It's just that the right thing hasn't come along."

Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool also reunites Jamie with Julie Walters, 67, who played his dance teacher in Billy Elliot. The actor says he was delighted to work with her again - but they did not share any dance scenes.

"It was the first time I've seen her for a long time," he states, adding: "Thankfully, I'm a bit taller than her now. (This time she is) my mother, not teacher. No dancing with her."

Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool debuts in cinemas next month (Nov17).
