Jake Gyllenhaal's Southpaw gets star-studded screening at Cannes
Jake Gyllenhaal's upcoming boxing movie Southpaw had a star-studded screening at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday (22May15), just days after its first scheduled showing was canceled.
The Brokeback Mountain star was slated to present his new drama on Tuesday (19May15), but producers at the Weinstein Company had to axe the event at late notice as Gyllenhaal was unable to attend because it clashed with his responsibilities as a member of the festival's jury, reports the New York Post.
Gyllenhaal was finally able to show off his latest work at a
screening party aboard a private yacht, and among those in
attendance were Adrien Brody, Michelle Rodriguez, Antonio Banderas,
Mary J. Blige, Charli XCX, and Adriana Lima.
Festival delegate general Thierry Fremaux introduced the sneak
screening, which was selected for the exclusive festival, but not
allowed to enter the Palme d'Or race, since Gyllenhaal was a member
of the jury.
Antoine Fuqua's film also features Rachel McAdams, Forest Whitaker
and Curtis Jackson (aka 50 Cent), and is slated to hit cinemas on
24 July (15).
