George Clooney has turned to an Italian journalist and former Mayor of Rome to officiate his upcoming wedding to fiancee Amal Alamuddin.
The Ocean's Eleven superstar will reportedly exchange vows with British lawyer Alamuddin in Venice, Italy this weekend (27-28Sep14) and the actor has asked his pal Walter Veltroni to preside over the nuptials, according to People.com.
Veltroni, who has been close friends with Clooney for several years, served as Mayor of Rome from 2001 to 2008. He also wrote the introduction to the Italian edition of U.S. President Barack Obama's book The Audacity of Hope, which was released in 2006, when he was still a senator in Illinois.
Clooney isn't Veltroni's only high-profile Hollywood friend - he was also a guest at Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' Italian wedding in 2006.
