Iggy Azalea pressured to increase social media followers

Written by . Published: March 17 2016

Rapper Iggy Azalea has been encouraged by music executives to share photographs with celebrities online to boost her followers.

The Fancy singer, who has more than six million Twitter followers, has been put under pressure by her bosses to up her numbers on social media, and they have even suggested she hangs out with fellow celebrities and post photos on social media to increase her numbers.

"You go to meetings, you sit down and they'll be like, 'Blah blah blah Twitter followers - this is how you could make more," she told Britain's Schon! magazine, for which she has posed topless, with her arm covering her breasts. "Those things annoy me so much because they're so f**king contrived. They'll always say, 'You should take more pictures with your celebrity friends'."

Iggy has refused to take their advice because she finds it fake, and would rather not hang out with a famous friend, such as Demi Lovato, just for the sake of her social media accounts.

"This is so gross!" she added. "Who wants to fake-hang out with people to take pictures for Instagram so you can get more likes? It's just so fake... My position is - there's plenty of people in the industry that I like or that I think are great. I'm not someone who calls up someone to go for lunch twice just to take an Instagram picture."

During the interview, the Australian rapper, who is engaged to basketball star Nick Young, also revealed she has organised the date and the location of her wedding ceremony, but details of the day have taken a back seat while she gears up to release her second album Digital Distortion this year (16).

"I know where I'm getting married, and the date," she smiled. "I have my wedding dress being made. I've booked my honeymoon... But I haven't made any major decisions, like I haven't picked the food or done the table settings or flowers. I've been so immersed and involved in getting everything perfect for Digital Distortion."
