Iggy Azalea goes to court to fight marriage claims

Australian rapper Iggy Azalea appeared in court in Los Angeles on Tuesday (06Jan15) to kick off a legal fight over claims she is legally married to her ex-boyfriend.

The Fancy star came face-to-face with her former lover Maurice Williams in Federal Court in L.A. as part of a legal battle between the pair.

Azalea has taken legal action against Williams in a bid to prevent him from distributing recordings from the early days of her career, and she is also fighting the divorce petition he filed last year (14).

He alleges they are in fact wed because they previously lived together in Texas, where local laws state a couple can be considered husband and wife if they reside together for a long period of time and agree to present themselves as married.

Azalea was photographed arriving at court looking sombre in a black pant suit as her attorney began legal proceedings, arguing the star should be granted an injunction banning Williams from releasing her demos.

Williams' lawyer Joseph Porter tells E! News, "They were in a husband and wife situation... I'd like to think I am going to win."
