Newly-engaged rapper Iggy Azalea has opened up about her shock decision to cancel her tour, insisting she needed a mental "break" after working "non-stop" since 2013.
The hip-hop star initially postponed the start of The Great Escape Tour from spring (15) to autumn (15), but on Friday (29May15), it was announced the whole trek had been scrapped.
Azalea later took to Twitter.com to apologize for the axe, claiming she was "so sad" to pull the plug on the live shows, and now she is explaining all to fans in a candid interview with Seventeen magazine.
In the chat, the Black Widow hitmaker confesses she is exhausted from her intense promotional schedule for her debut album The New Classic, which hit retailers last year (14), and she wants to take the time to enjoy her success.
She tells the publication, "Mentally, to be honest with you, I just feel I deserve a break. I've been going non-stop for the past two years, nearly every single day...
"(It's) very emotionally draining to be on all the time and going all the time, planning all the time. It's a lot, and it's tough. I need a break from everything to just enjoy what I worked so hard for, and I don't really feel like I've had a chance to do that. I need a break to figure out what I want my sound to progress to, and I need a break to figure out how I want my visuals to progress."
Azalea goes on to admit she is starting to tire of singing the same songs over and over again and she is ready to "perform new stuff and do new things".
She adds, "I feel like I'm at the end of an era now. To go on a tour in late September and to stay in that mindset of what I'd envisioned for that tour, I feel like that would stifle me...
"It's not easy to decide that the best thing to do is cancel a tour, but that's the best thing for me. I don't want to disappoint my fans. I feel really bad. It was a tough decision to make, but it was the best thing."
The break will give Azalea time to plan her wedding after accepting her basketball star boyfriend Nick Young's proposal on Monday (01Jun15).
