Hugh Jackman picks up top trophy at Zurich Film Festival
Actor Hugh Jackman put his language skills to the test as he picked up a top trophy at the 2013 Zurich Film Festival and delivered his acceptance speech in German.
The Wolverine star was in Switzerland on Saturday (28Sep13) to pick up the Golden Icon Award at a special ceremony held in his honor, and he addressed the crowd in heavily-accented German.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jackman delighted fans as he
said, "I am honored to receive this honor and to present my new
film Prisoners."
Switching over to English, he explained that he owed "literally
everything" to Switzerland as his parents first met at a Swiss
resort. Jackman also recalled how he visited the country "on a
pilgrimage" when he was 18: "(I was) wandering the streets and
sleeping at the railway station. That bum you saw and kicked? That
was me."
Director Denis Villeneuve and Academy Award-winning actress Melissa
Leo also appeared at the event with Jackman to screen new thriller
Prisoners.
The Australian star's latest accolade comes just days after he was
presented with a lifetime achievement award at Spain's San
Sebastian Film Festival.
