One Direction's new humanitarian project has been given a huge boost from presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton after the former Secretary of State tweeted her support for the cause.

The What Makes You Beautiful hitmakers launched a campaign called Action 1D on Wednesday (08Jul15), calling on fans to lobby global leaders to make positive changes to the world ahead of two key United Nations summits on humanitarian issues and climate change later this year (15).

Announcing the initiative, bandmember Harry Styles stated, "2015 is a year like no other and we want you to really make it count. You guys are truly amazing and over the years you've shown us what you can achieve if you rally together. At two historic summits in September and December, world leaders will make decisions that affect important human issues like extreme poverty, inequality and climate change."

The campaign has already caught the eye of former First Lady Clinton and she has given her backing to the project by sharing a link with her Twitter.com followers.

A post on the Democrat's official account reads: "The boys are right. We need everyone's help to get the planet moving in the right direction. http://action1d.onedirectionmusic.com #action1D".
