Hilary Swank engaged

Oscar-winning actress Hilary Swank is engaged to former tennis professional Ruben Torres.

The Million Dollar Baby star broke the happy news to fans on Instagram on Tuesday (22Mar16), when she shared a photo of herself posing alongside her new fiance, with her engagement ring on show.

"Went on a hike and this happened!," she captioned the sweet snapshot. "I am so happy to announce the engagement to my dear Ruben."

The couple has been dating since July last year (15), and made its red carpet debut in December (15), while attending DuJour Magazine's annual kick-off party for Art Basel in Miami, Florida.

The actress' representative has since also confirmed the news to People magazine, while a source tells the publication the ex-sportsman got down on bended knee over the weekend (19-20Mar16) at the BNP Paribas Tennis Open in Palm Springs, California.

The couple attended Moet & Chandon's inaugural 'Holding Court' Champagne bash on Saturday night (19Mar16), and it is believed Ruben asked Hilary to become his wife that evening.

This will be Hilary's second marriage, having previously tied the knot with actor Chad Lowe in 1997.

The pair divorced in 2007 and the star then embarked on a six-year relationship with her agent John Campisi, who she split from in 2012.
