Actress Gabourey Sidibe was left terrified after a group of Empire fans followed her during a taxi ride and almost caused a car accident.

The Precious star was traveling in a cab with her Empire castmates Jussie Smollett and Kaitlin Doubleday when they were spotted by a car-full of devotees.

Gabourey reveals the other vehicle began driving dangerously and they came close to crashing.

"I was in an Uber (taxi) with Jussie Smollett and Kaitlin Doubleday, and there was a car next to us that almost kept ramming into us," she tells the New York Post's gossip column Page Six. "We're screaming at them to not cause an accident. They were way too excited to care about street laws. It quickly became a Fast & Furious moment."

After the two cars stopped at a set of traffic lights, the fans got out and approached the actors, who warned them about their driving.

"(They) ran up to the window to take pictures, and we're like, 'Can you just drive safely?'"

The news comes after Empire won a number of nominations for the upcoming Golden Globe awards. Taraji P. Henson will compete for Best Actress in a TV Series - Drama, and Empire will go up against Game of Thrones, Mr. Robot, Narcos and Outlander for Best TV Series - Drama.

The nominations were announced on Thursday (10Dec15) by stars including America Ferrera, Angela Bassett, Chloe Grace Moretz and Dennis Quaid at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

The Golden Globes, which will be hosted by British funnyman Ricky Gervais, are to be held at the Beverly Hilton on 10 January (16).
