Frozen's Santino Fontana heading to Tootsie on Broadway

Written by . Published: May 25 2017

Frozen star Santino Fontana is reportedly poised to don drag and step into Dustin Hoffman's heels for the long-awaited Broadway musical adaptation of Tootsie.

The beloved 1982 movie starred Hoffman as struggling actor Michael Dorsey, who creates a female persona and dresses as a woman to land a top gig on a soap opera.

Plans to turn the Oscar-nominated film into a New York stage production first emerged in 2012, and now, five years on, a reading has been set for 8 June (17).

Sources tell BroadwayWorld.com Fontana, who voiced Prince Hans in Disney mega hit Frozen, has been tapped to take on the part of Dorsey.

He last performed on Broadway in 2014's Act One, while his other big stage credits include Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella in 2013, The Importance of Being Earnest in 2011, and 2010's A View From The Bridge revival.

Other casting details have yet to be revealed.

Scott Ellis will direct the new musical comedy.
