Actress Eva Longoria is entering into the world of sports documentaries by producing a series of short films for ESPN.

The Desperate Housewives star's first film for the Versus series will premiere in May (15) and will focus on mariachi singer Sebastien De La Cruz, who's performance at the 2013 NBA Finals was met with a barrage of racist Twitter.com messages about Latinos and immigration.

She says, "I really wanted to tell that story because what came out of it was something beautiful and a really great lesson.

"We got into this little boy who plays soccer and was thrown into the centre of this debate about immigration and what it's about to be Mexican."

Violet Palmer, the National Basketball Association's first female referee, will also be the subject of one of Longoria's films for the series.
