Emily Blunt plays down Captain Marvel rumors
British actress Emily Blunt has played down rumors suggesting she has been approached to star as Captain Marvel in a new comic book superhero movie.
The Devil Wears Prada star has been linked to the role of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, since 2012, but casting details for the planned 2018 film have yet to be revealed - and Blunt claims she hasn't been offered the job.
In an interview with Vulture.com, she says, "No one's offered me
that officially, so it's... very unofficial. I think it's
fan-casting, which is always very nice. But nothing official has
been offered, for sure."
However, Blunt, who became a first-time mother in February (14),
reveals Marvel movie bosses have been eager to work with her after
initially calling on her to play Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow,
and Peggy Carter from the Captain America franchise.
Confirming the roles, she explains, "Yeah, but it was never the
right time, really, and it just didn't work out scheduling-wise
with those two.
"It's always a difficult thing to talk about, because it's not fair
to the actresses who ended up playing them, you know? It just
wasn't the right time."
Scarlett Johansson eventually landed the role of Romanoff, making
her debut in 2012's The Avengers, while fellow British actress
Hayley Atwell was cast as Carter.
