Ellen DeGeneres launches campaign to become Beyonce's first Instagram follow

TV host Ellen Degeneres has launched a campaign to become the first person Beyonce follows on Instagram.

The 36-year-old singer is a regular poster on the social media platform and earlier this year (17) used it to announce she was expecting twins.

However, despite having more than 100 million people following her on Instagram, she does not follow anyone else.

On her chat show on Thursday (28Sep17) Ellen began a campaign to become the first person Beyonce follows on the platform.

"So now I have a new goal in life: I want to become the one person that Beyonce follows," Ellen said. "I didn't think it was gonna get to this point."

In order to get the R&B star's attention Ellen recorded a video of her studio audience dancing to Beyoce's hit Single Ladies and posted it on the social media platform.

She captioned the video "Hey @Beyonce, if you follow me, you'll get this and more", before adding, "Stop playing hard to get, @Beyonce."

On her show the 59-year-old star admitted that she had become addicted to the photo-sharing website and hangs on celebrities' updates.

"I signed up for Instagram and I was just kinda fooling around," she explains. "I just thought I'll follow Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, baby goats... just kid stuff. And then I started following a Kardashian here, a Kardashian there, and obviously that led to the Jenners. And then I got into the harder stuff. Food, cats, Beyonce."

Ellen has already conquered another social media website, as while hosting the 2014 Oscars she posted a selfie photograph on Twitter featuring some of Hollywood's biggest stars.

The snap, which featured Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyong'o, Meryl Streep, Bradley Cooper and Julia Roberts, earned her more than 3.4 million retweets.
