Eddie Redmayne to be honored at Palm Springs film festival

Actor Eddie Redmayne is to be honored with the Desert Palm Achievement Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in California next year (15).

The Les Miserables star will be feted for his role as physicist Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything on 3 January (15) at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Announcing the news on Friday (07Nov14), festival chairman Harold Matzner says, "From The Good Shepherd to Les Miserables, Eddie Redmayne has proven himself an actor poised for greatness. In The Theory of Everything, as ALS-stricken scientist Stephen Hawking, Redmayne captivates his audience as he goes through a powerful physical transformation, from a healthy college student to a dependent wheelchair-bound middle-aged man, in what is truly a stunning performance."

Past recipients of the award include Bradley Cooper, Daniel Day-Lewis and Matthew McConaughey.
