Eddie Redmayne: 'Dad inspired my love for Omega watches'

Omega amabasaador Eddie Redmayne was introduced to the brand by his "style icon" father.

The Oscar-winning actor has become a style icon in his own right since finding fame, and regularly tops lists of the world's best dressed men. For the recent 2016 Academy Awards Eddie went for a black velvet Alexander McQueen tuxedo, accessorised with an Omega watch.

"My dad wore an Omega - a beautiful, classic DeVille. It was a gold watch with a brown antique strap. It was something that I looked at growing up - my dad was (a) style icon for me and still is - and that's how I was introduced to Omega," Eddie told the crowd at Tuesday night's (01March16) Omega's Master Chronometer Globemaster launch.

The event took place at Mack Sennett Studios in Los Angeles, and Eddie once again looked dapper in a deep blue suit. He was joined by his pregnant wife Hannah Bagshawe, who glowed in a loose fitting floral dress.

"For me, there is a romance to watches," he continued. "There is this idea of history and passing things on, but also the storytelling behind the timepieces. Their history (is) unrivalled. Their watches were first on the Moon, flown by the British and U.S. Air Forces - and that creates a legacy."

Eddie helped Omega debut its newest collection, Globemaster, a vintage-inspired timepiece. Omega president and CEO Stephen Urquhart was on hand to heap praise on British star Eddie, who was announced as an ambassador for the company in May 2015.

"He's a great actor, very forward-looking, and the films he makes are quite modern and bold," Stephen gushed. "At Omega, that's what we're trying to achieve - modern and bold."
