Ed Sheeran is returning to TV as a character on The Simpsons.

A day after the singer/songwriter appeared as a singing soldier in the season premiere of Game of Thrones, he has revealed he's plotting an animated spot on the hit cartoon series.

Ed posted an image of his yellow character with red hair and a hat on Instagram on Monday (17Jul17) and wrote: "This year continues to be equally surreal and amazing. Watch out for this one, me and Lisa have a whole thing going on."

Lisa is The Simpsons' eldest daughter, sister of troublemaker Bart.

Sheeran will reportedly voice a character called Brendan in a musical-themed episode of The Simpsons, which will air later this year (17).

Executive producer Al Jean tells Entertainment Weekly that Sheeran’s part was recorded over the phone from the U.K.

"We had a perfect part for him... so we said, 'Oh, great, we'll have him do this!' And we recorded him over the phone from England."
