Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has vowed to increase his work ethic after he was named as the world's highest paid actor.

The wrestler-turned-action star, 44, was named by Forbes magazine as the top paid actor of the past 12 months (Jun15-Jun16) with earnings of $64.5 million from film roles including buddy comedy Central Intelligence and motoring movie Furious 7.

Despite his huge earnings, the actor was only ranked 19th on the magazine's Celebrity 100 list of the wealthiest individuals and acts in sports and entertainment, which was topped by pop star Taylor Swift, but topped the actors section ahead of martial arts movie star Jackie Chan.

Upon receiving the news that he was Hollywood's top earner, Dwayne took to Instagram to celebrate his achievement, thank colleagues and vowed to up his famously intense work schedule even more.

"Receiving news like this will always serve as my anchoring reminder to continue to work even harder," Dwayne writes. "We not only want to 'embrace the grind', but take the grind to new levels. I learned a few invaluable lessons a long time ago that can help all of you guys out there succeed at whatever it is you're doing."

Explaining that teamwork is the key to success he added, "Greatness is never achieved alone. Surround yourself with hungry, brilliant individuals who not only buy into your philosophy, but who are all willing to work just as hard as you. Power of teamwork."

The musclebound star is certainly showing no signs of letting up, as he is currently filming the next Fast and Furious movie, Fast 8, is preparing to star in a new Jumanji film and recently finished filming a movie adaptation of beloved beach-based TV show Baywatch.
