Drake wins top trophy at MTV's Woodie Awards

Rapper Drake was the big winner at the mtvU Woodie Awards on Thursday (13Mar14), and sent Lil Wayne to collect his prize.


The awards, celebrating music popular with college students, took place at the South By Southwest festival in Texas, and Drake was named the recipient of the Woodie Of The Year trophy.


The man himself was a no-show, but his record label boss Lil Wayne thrilled the crowd by making a surprise appearance to accept the award on Drake's behalf.


Superstar Beyonce won the inaugural Did It My Way Woodie in honour of her groundbreaking career, while British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran was handed the Performing Woodie.


Other acts to pick up prizes included U.K. rockers The 1975 (Breaking Woodie) and Chance The Rapper (Best Video Woodie for Everybody's Something).
