Drake's emotional tracks anger ex-girlfriends

Hip-hop star Drake is often subjected to "awkward" angry phone calls from teary exes after name-dropping them in his songs about love and heartbreak.

The Best I Ever Had hitmaker is known for displaying his raw emotion on tracks, but the revealing lyrics don't make him popular with his former girlfriends.

He tells New York Magazine, "I often get so immersed in the song that I will even go so far as to say somebody's name in it. And then the songs come out and I'm like, 'F**k! This is gonna be bad', you know? And I get those phone calls.

"Some people don't understand it, you know? Like, 'Why? Why?' (They) call me crying. It's rough. I've definitely had my share of awkward experiences due to my music."

But Drake admits he still hasn't learned to reel in his emotions in the studio.

He says, "I can't stop my emotion; I always go with my initial thought. I never pull back. Unless it's like someone crazy or something, and I'll be like, 'I shouldn't say that person's name.'"
