Baseball great Derek Jeter was covered in gold slime at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Sports Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday night (16Jul15).

The recently retired New York Yankees star was the recipient of the Legend Award at the prizegiving, which honors the best athletes in sports.

During his inspiring acceptance speech, Jeter said to the room full of youngsters, "To all the kids out there, dream big. Set your goals high. Work extremely hard at it, and surround yourself with positive people. Most importantly, be a good person. If you do that, everything will work out."

Shortly after, he was doused in the special goo, much to the delight of the kids in the audience.

The award comes a day after Jeter received the Icon Award at Wednesday's (15Jul15) ESPYs sports ceremony.

Other winners at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Sports Awards included basketball star Stephen Curry, tennis star Serena Williams, skier Lindsey Vonn, and the show's host and American footballer Russell Wilson, who attended the event with his girlfriend, Ciara.
