David Beckham made son Brooklyn honor tattoo promise

Brooklyn Beckham almost broke a promise to his dad David by heading to a tattoo parlor without him.

The former soccer star has long been a fan of inkings, and admitted that his eldest son had been very keen to get his first tattoo as soon as he turned 18 in March (17).

"There's absolutely nothing I can say," the heavily tattooed father of four said on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Thursday night (08Jun17). "He's got two. He was 18 pretty recently, and he was counting the days down because he talked about having a tattoo for a long time."

Brooklyn had promised his famous father that he would let him take him for his first tattoo, but he almost broke the pact on a trip to Paris, France.

"He was with his girlfriend in Paris, and one of my friends called me that was looking after him there and said, 'It's not coming from me, but Brooklyn is in a tattoo shop with his girlfriend,'" David told James. "And he'd always promised me, and I always said to him, 'Your first tattoo, if you're gonna have one, your first tattoo, I want to be there just to experience it as a dad.'"

The retired sportstar quickly FaceTimed his son, who admitted he was in a tattoo place with his girlfriend, and was thinking of having something done.

"I said, 'OK, you're more than welcome to have it but you remember you promised me, and I'm your dad and I would feel really upset if you actually went through with it,' so he didn't. Thankfully he waited."

In April, the budding photographer and his father shared pictures of a Native American-inspired design etched onto Brooklyn's forearm. The design was done by Becks' trusted artist, Mark Mahoney at the Shamrock Social Club tattoo parlor in Hollywood.

Later in the show, David admitted he was getting emotional as Brooklyn prepares to leave home and head to university in September.

"It's nerve-wracking. He talks about me being uncool, but I find him in my wardrobe every day," admitted David. "You never want your kids to leave home, I want them to live with me always."
