Filmmaker Darren Aronofsky gave devout Christians a sneak peek of his new biblical epic Noah at a religious conference in Texas on Thursday (25Jul13).

The film, which stars Russell Crowe as the ark-building flood hero, won't hit cinemas until next spring (Mar14), but movie fans attending the Echo Conference were given a treat when the director debuted the trailer and even offered up a video introduction, in which he explained why Noah's story is so special to him after winning a poetry contest in seventh grade with an ode to the biblical figure.

He told the Echo Conference audience that the win gave him "the courage and spirit to be a writer," adding, "Noah's very much been a patron saint in my life, leading me towards my creative endeavours."

Aronofsky went on to state, "I'm also excited that Hollywood has finally agreed to make the first biblical epic in almost 50 years."

Film fans who witnessed the trailer have spoken favourably about what they saw, with one audience member tweeting, "Just saw an exclusive trailer for the upcoming film Noah starring Russell Crow. Looks amazing", while another added, "Just saw the trailer for Aronofsky's 'Noah'. It looks like it's gonna be off the chain."
