Daniel Day-Lewis tackles Italian rally

Actor Daniel Day-Lewis turned race car driver this week (begs13May13) to tackle Italy's famed Mille Miglia challenge.

The Lincoln star jumped behind the wheel of a vintage Jaguar to take part in the 1,000-mile (1,609-kilomtere) rally, and relished the chance to meet locals during the event.

He tells Britain's The Sun, "It's such a special experience. Kids have run out in front of the cars and stopped us so they can hear the roar of acceleration as we speed off.

"The atmosphere is unlike anything I've experienced before. I have loved it. I have always loved motorbikes, but this is something else."
