Actor Daniel Craig is in negotiations to co-star alongside Halle Berry in Los Angeles riots based drama Kings.

The Hollywood stars are trading in the world of espionage in the James Bond franchise for a setting rooted in the reality of racial tensions in California for an upcoming independent film.

According to Deadline, Craig is in final talks to join forces with the Die Another Day beauty in Kings, a movie set in 1992 during the Rodney King trial, a real-life court case that helped set off the Los Angeles riots in the South Central area of the city.

Should Craig seal the deal, he will be depicting a loner named Ollie, one of the only white residents living in the nearly all black and Latino neighborhood. Ollie falls in love with Berry's character, a tough mother who looks after a whole bunch of kids and when the riots erupt, Ollie and Berry's persona work together to track down the children in her keep in a bid to save them from the worst of the civil unrest.

Mustang director Deniz Gamze Erguven will make her English language debut with Kings and the filmmaker will be re-teaming with Mustang producer Charles Gillibert on the project.

Erguven has wanted to make Kings for years, as she first presented the concept to the Cannes L’Atélier co-production market in 2011 after graduating from French Fémis, a prestigious film school. However, she eventually decided to settle on making Mustang her directorial debut, a good choice in hindsight, since the movie landed her an Oscar nomination in the Best Foreign Language category at the 88th Academy Awards, in addition to many other accolades.
