Cory Monteith's father speaks out on anniversary of death

The father of tragic Glee star Cory Monteith has spoken about the loss of his son to mark the one-year anniversary of the actor's death.

Monteith died in a hotel room in Vancouver, Canada following a drug and alcohol related overdose a year ago on Sunday (13Jul14) and his estranged father Joe Monteith has marked the sad milestone by opening up about dealing with the loss.

He tells how he was unable to say goodbye to his late son after not being notified about funeral arrangements, and insists it is right for Monteith's girlfriend Lea Michele to move on with her life following reports she is dating once again.

He tells ET Canada, "I still miss him very much and I still have the empty feeling inside. Cory was a likeable young man and if he was in the room, you'd be smiling. He enjoyed life. That's why I was so shocked about the outcome of everything."

Referring to Michele, he adds, "She's a beautiful young woman, she's just getting to the top of her career and I don't expect her to go out and do it alone. She should enjoy life. She had a good time when she was with Cory, from what I understand, but life's gotta go on."
