Corey Haim's childhood mixtape inspired Jenny Lewis to launch music career

A mixtape the late Corey Haim gave to Jenny Lewis when they were kids inspired the actress/singer to pursue a career in music.

The former Rilo Kiley rocker first rose to fame as a child actress in the 1980s, starring in shows like The Golden Girls and Growing Pains, but she became hooked on music at the age of 10 after The Lost Boys actor Haim gifted her with a compilation of his favorite songs, including tracks by the Beastie Boys and Run-D.M.C. at a party.

She tells The New York Times Magazine, "There have been a couple of cassette tapes that have changed my life, and that was the first one."

However, it wasn't until Lewis hit her 20s that she decided to switch the focus from her acting to her musical talents and launch her first band, Rilo Kiley.
