Combs sued over perfume
Sean 'Diddy' Combs is facing a lawsuit over the name of one of his fragrances.
The hip-hop mogul has branched out into fashion in recent years by setting up the Sean John Clothing Company, which also creates perfumes and aftershaves, and the rapper is now embroiled in a legal battle with bosses of a cosmetics company, who have sued the star over one of his scents.
Executives at Empress Haircare Products filed a lawsuit at a court
in New York on 10 January (12) alleging Combs attempted to
trademark the name 'Empress' even though they have already been
granted the right to use the name.
They allege a representative for Combs' company contacted them last
year (10) and offered to compensate them in return for handing over
the trademark, but they refused, and the trademark has since been
used on a fragrance and lotion line.
The lawsuit cites infringement of a federally registered trademark
and unfair competition, while also demanding damages and profits
from Combs' products, according to Allhiphop.com.
