Chris Pratt thought Guardians of the Galaxy would bomb

Chris Pratt initially thought his blockbuster film Guardians Of The Galaxy would "bomb" because of its unconventional characters.

The sci-fi superhero film based on the Marvel comic book series of the same name features an unlikely team of extraterrestrial misfits, including an alien, a talking raccoon and tree-like humanoid set out to save the world.

When the Parks and Recreation star first began to work with Guardians producers, he was hesitant to take on the lead role of Peter Quill/Star-Lord because it sounded so outlandish and doomed for failure.

He tells The Hollywood Reporter, "Every rule said, 'You don't make a movie with a talking tree,' 'You don't spend this much money on a raccoon with a gun'. For me, I was like, 'Oh, so this movie is going to bomb. Done. This is the end of my career.'"

Pratt's initial instincts proved to be misled - the film was a massive hit, grossing more than $772 million in the worldwide box office, making it one of the biggest movies of the year (14).
