Chris Pratt recalls fishing trip terror

Actor Chris Pratt feared for his life when he was overcome by powerful waves during a fishing trip in Hawaii.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star moved to Hawaii after dropping out of university in the 1990s, and he suffered a near-death experience just months before he moved to Hollywood to embark on an acting career.

The actor was convinced he would die while fishing on a dangerous set of rocks near a shark-infested sea, telling Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "I was nearly swallowed by the sea in Hawaii... That's the closest I've come to death - one of those moments you think you might not make it out.

"I was fishing on this rock point called Three Sisters. It's really, really turbulent and dangerous water - shark infested. It's all sharp lava rock that rises and falls 10 feet with every bit of tide, it's so deep and so powerful... I'm on this point fishing into this hole and I didn't notice a set of waves coming in. All of a sudden there was no land around me, I was surrounded by water almost up to my waist.

"I felt the weight of the water start pulling me in. I was wearing flip flops and I just dropped everything, went down and grabbed the lava rock... It nearly pulled me off but, before the waves could come back up, I somehow climbed up the wall. I lost my shoes, my rod, but I was very lucky."
