Chris Pine's upcoming turn as literary hero Jack Ryan has been thrown into jeopardy after the new movie's director quit.

The actor is due to follow in the footsteps of Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck by playing the beloved Tom Clancy character in a new film, which was due to be directed by Lost helmer Jack Bender.

The project was scheduled to start filming in the summer (12) as soon as Pine wrapped up work on the upcoming Star Trek sequel, but Bender has now been forced to exit the movie due to other commitments.

Studio bosses are now looking for a replacement director, according to Variety.com.

Previous Jack Ryan films have included Ford's Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, and Affleck's The Sum of All Fears.
