Chris Brown shuts down Rihanna split rumours

Chris Brown has shut down new rumours he and girlfriend Rihanna have split up.

The Kiss Kiss hitmaker premiered the music video of his new single Fine China on breakfast show Today on Monday (01Apr13), and afterwards he sat down with host Matt Lauer to discuss his inner struggle to forgive himself and win back public favour following his 2009 conviction for assaulting Rihanna on the eve of the Grammy Awards.

The singers reunited in 2012, but last week (ends31Mar13) bosses at Los Angeles radio station Power 106 aired an interview clip in which Brown was asked if they were still dating and responds, "No, that's the short answer."

The 23 year old's reply went viral, but now Brown has set the record straight, insisting show producers combined excerpts of their conversation with comments from an old interview to make the clip more newsworthy.

He explained, "We're fine, in the actual interview that they try to depict that (we split), they... got it wrong. I think they interviewed me (and combined it with)... an old interview that was maybe (conducted) a year prior."

Brown also admitted he still has a lot of work to do to prove he's a changed man, but he's adamant he's learned his lesson.

He added, "I've been humbled by the whole experience. From me losing everything, you know, to me having to regain public opinion or whatever it is - but most importantly, you know, knowing that what I did was totally wrong and having to kind of deal with myself and kind of forgive myself in the same breath and being able to apologise to, you know, to Rihanna...

"So as far as me and (Rihanna) are concerned, she knows my heart, and I know her heart. So I'm not really focused on the negative. Everything is positive for me. For me, it's about proving myself to my fans. The only thing I can do is please my family, myself, and please her, you know, and my fans."
