Chris Brown's lawyers ask for assault case to be dismissed

Chris Brown's lawyers have asked a judge to dismiss the misdemeanour assault charge the singer is facing in Washington, D.C.

The embattled star's legal representatives claim prosecutors misused the grand jury process to prepare for the trial, and filed a motion on Wednesday (26Mar14) to have the case dismissed.

Prosecutors had not responded to the motion as WENN went to press.

The case relates to the alleged assault of a man outside Brown's hotel in the capital in October (13). The 24-year-old singer and his bodyguard Christopher Hollosy both stand accused of punching the alleged victim.

The singer was sent to a California jail earlier this month (Mar14) after being asked to leave the Malibu rehabilitation center where he was completing a court order-stay to work on his anger issues.

A court date is set for 17 April (14) for the assault case, and on Wednesday (27Mar14) prosecutors filed legal papers asking for Brown to be moved from a Los Angeles jail to Washington, D.C. in time for the trial.
