Chris Brown copyright infringement lawsuit settled

Written by . Published: March 10 2016

Singer Chris Brown has settled a legal dispute over his 2012 song Don't Wake Me Up.

Nayeri Gregor launched a federal lawsuit against the Kiss Kiss star, officials at Sony Music and producer Benny Benassi last year (15), alleging she recorded a song with the same title and showcased the track for songwriter Brian Kennedy in 2011.

Gregor claimed she was unaware Kennedy was able to memorise scales and melodies and alleges he subsequently played the song for Brown and Benassi, who recorded and copyrighted it.

She was seeking $150,000 for each infringement and other damages, but Brown hit back at Gregor's claims and requested to have the lawsuit thrown out.

The two parties have since managed to reach a confidential settlement and the legal action was dismissed earlier this month (Mar16), according to TheJasmineBrand.com.
