Chow Yun-Fat blacklisted in China for pro-democracy support
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Chow Yun-Fat has reportedly been banned from making movies in China after voicing his support for pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong.
The actor has been placed on a blacklist by Chinese officials after meeting with the students seeking to break away from communist rule in the former British territory.
He recently told Cantonese-language publication Apple Daily, "I've
met the residents, the students - they are very brave and it's
touching to see that they're fighting for what they want. The
students are reasonable. If the government can come up with a
solution that the citizens or students are satisfied with, I
believe the crisis will end."
He also criticized the police's use of tear gas to break up the
recent demonstrations, adding, "When the government uses violent
measures on students, it's a turn-off for the people of Hong Kong.
I don't wish to see anyone getting hurt."
Asked if he was concerned about reports of the China ban, he told
the Shanghaiist, "I'll just make less (films in China) then."
