Chloe Grace Moretz defends Justin Bieber's Anne Frank comments

Actress Chloe Grace Moretz has defended fellow teen star Justin Bieber after he was slammed for an "insensitive" message he scribbled in a guest book at the Anne Frank House museum in Amsterdam, Holland on Friday (12Apr13).

The Baby hitmaker visited the tourist attraction, where the Jewish teenager and her family hid from the Nazis during World War II, ahead of a show nearby and left a note that many history buffs and admirers of the war heroine found to be in poor taste.

The message, which was posted online by a staff member, read, "Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a Belieber (fan)."

Even officials at the museum felt the need to defend their famous visitor after critics took aim at Bieber for his insincere guest book scribble, and at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday (14Apr13) Kick-Ass star Moretz offered her thoughts about the controversy, suggesting Bieber probably didn't mean to cause offense with his comment and insisting that sometimes it helps to bring "light into... dark situations."

She said, "I don't know, a lot of people are Beliebers, maybe she (Anne Frank) would have been a Belieber. (But) I very much respect Anne Frank and... everything she went through... (It) is a very serious situation and, you know, to make a joke of it sometimes is kind of inappropriate. But, at the same time, you can look at it and go, 'Well, you've got to bring light into those dark situations'."
