Charlie Hunnam isn't a fan of 'outlandish' romantic gestures

Charlie Hunnam doesn't rely on "outlandish" gestures to keep the love alive in his relationship.

The British actor has been dating artist Morgana McNelis since 2005, and has now revealed that the secret to their solid bond is a "consistent" level of romance.

"I subscribe to, like, not, like, necessarily giving a big Christmas present, Christmas or big birthday present or doing any giant outlandish romantic gestures," he told Entertainment Tonight. "I try to keep it consistent like small amount of romance all the time, that's my strategy."

Portraying the figure of King Arthur in Guy Ritchie's latest film, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, required a lot of skill and energy from Charlie, particularly in the fight sequences. But the 37-year-old star isn't just an action man, and often seeks to relax by whipping up delicious dishes in the kitchen.

"I'm an excellent cook... If I'm cooking for my girlfriend, she loves pasta so I normally, if I'm going to spoil her, I'll go out and make some pasta," he shared. "We were just in Thailand recently and I took a Thai cooking course, so I've been trying my hand at some Thai dishes recently."

Meanwhile, the star has also revealed that he used a sit-down chat to convince Ritchie to let him audition for King Arthur. Charlie flew all the way to the U.K. to meet with the filmmaker and they discussed the flick over a cup of tea.

"I flew to England and went and got him to agree to have a cup of tea with me," he shared with Reuters. "So we sat and had a cup of tea and two hours later we were laughing and joking and bantering, and he said, 'You know what, I'd love for you to come in and audition.' So I went in and auditioned and he gave me the role."

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword hits cinemas from this week (beg09May17).
