Charli XCX wishes she'd kept Selena Gomez's Same Old Love

Charli Xcx wishes she'd kept song Same Old Love to herself after offering it to Selena Gomez.

The British popstar is just as famous for her writing skills as she is for her solo music, penning tracks for everyone from Rihanna to Gwen Stefani. Selena was presented with song Same Old Love as a single to feature on her 2015 album Revival and it became a hit upon its release. Now Charli has confessed she somewhat regrets passing it on.

"There's been some songs I wished I'd kept. Actually Same Old Love was one of those songs that once I'd heard Selena sing it - and she sounded so great - I was like, 'Oh my god, I want this song for myself,'" she told Australia's Grazia magazine.

"Partly because she had such a high profile relationship which was all over the press, it felt very real coming from her and I think a lot of the audience could really connect because of what had been going on. It was cool that really brought that song to life."

Selena previously spoke about how much she related to the heartfelt lyrics of the track and many fans speculated it was about her on-off relationship with singer Justin Bieber.

Charli has kept herself busy writing new songs, and she is currently working on her third album having already dropped one of its singles, After the Afterparty, at the end of October (16). She's already hinted it's her most "pop" project yet, but wanted to make it fresh and unique at the same time.

"I like to work with people who aren't necessarily the particularly on-trend producers who are always having the biggest hits or the most success, those people have a formula that usually works," she explained. "I'm more interested in bringing new producers and underground producers into the world of the pop music I make."
