Cameron Douglas in trouble after probation violation - report

Cameron Douglas has reportedly violated his probation.

Michael Douglas' son was released to a halfway house in July (16) after serving more than six years in prison for drug offenses. He was initially sentenced to a five year prison term for possessing heroin and selling other drugs in 2010, but his sentence was increased after he confessed to smuggling illegal substances into jail.

As per his release agreement, the actor is required to undergo random drug tests and he recently failed one. According to the New York Post's Page Six, Cameron tested positive for marijuana in April (17). At a subsequent hearing over the failed drug test, probation officers and Cameron's lawyer asked for leniency in the matter.

"We would like to provide Mr. Douglas an opportunity to be in the community to see how he responds to setbacks," a probation officer said.

Cameron's attorney, Ben Brafman, also claimed Douglas was suffering from post traumatic stress disorder because of his difficult prison stint.

"His period of imprisonment was horrific," he said.

However, he insisted he will be able to stay sober.

"He is fine and there is no issue," he added.

After his relapse, Manhattan federal judge Richard Berman sided with probation officers and granted their request to have Douglas drug tested and searched more often. He is due back in court on Wednesday (21May17) for a status hearing.
