Britney Spears raffling off VMAs costume for Louisiana flood relief

Britney Spears is giving back to her native Louisiana by raffling off the costume she plans on wearing to this weekend's (28Aug16) MTV Video Music Awards.

The rains hit the state hard earlier this month (Aug16), with severe floods damaging over 60,000 homes and leaving at least 13 people dead.

Many celebrities have come forward with donations and general support for those affected in the flooding, and now Britney, who is originally from Kentwood, is doing her part with a special contest run in conjunction with the American Red Cross and crowdfunding site CrowdRise.

With every $10 donation, fans will be entered into the raffle for a chance to win one of two grand prizes. One winner will be the new owner of the outfit the Piece of Me singer plans to wear when she performs at the annual MTV prizegiving, along with an autographed copy of her new album Glory.

A separate winner and a guest will be flown to New York City to attend the VMAs and meet Britney prior to her performance.

The pop star's appearance at the ceremony will mark her first performance at the VMAs in almost 10 years.

The last time she graced the stage at the awards show was in 2007, when she attempted to make a career comeback with a performance of her hit song Gimme More. However, critics savaged her return, poking fun at the fact she appeared shaky and stumbled across the stage.

This time around, the 34 year old is set to give a debut performance of her new single Make Me..., just two days after the release of her ninth studio album Glory, which reaches listeners on Friday (26Aug16).
