Brie Larson lands another honor at Canadian Screen Awards

Brie Larson continued her winning streak as Room dominated the Canadian Screen Awards on Sunday (13Mar16).

Two weeks after nabbing the Oscar for Best Actress, Larson won the similar category at the Toronto prize giving, which honors the best in film and television in Canada.

While the actress was not on hand to accept the award in person, her nine-year-old co-star, Vancouver native Jacob Tremblay, was given the honor of Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role - beating out the likes of veteran actor Christopher Plummer for the accolade.

"Wow, this is amazing. I can't believe a little kid won against all these talented adults," a stunned Tremblay said during his acceptance speech.

Room dominated the ceremony, winning a total of nine trophies, including the top honor of Best Motion Picture, Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Joan Allen), Best Director (Lenny Abrahamson), and Adapted Screenplay for Emma Donoghue, who wrote the script based on her novel of the same name.

The Canada-Ireland co-production also took home technical prizes for art direction, editing, and make-up.

Meanwhile in the TV categories, Schitt's Creek was named Best Comedy Series, and its stars Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy won the Best Performance by an Actress and Actor in a Continuing Leading Comedic Role respectively.

Cult sci-fi drama Orphan Black earned the two top drama acting prizes for multi-tasking actors Tatiana Maslany and Ari Millen, who both play multiple clones on the series.

Veteran comedian Martin Short was also honored with a lifetime achievement prize in recognition of his exceptional contribution to Canadian TV and film.

Canadian comedian Norm Macdonald hosted the annual ceremony for the second year in a row, taking over from Short, who emceed the event in 2013 and 2014.
