Irish rocker Bono is set to undergo surgery on his arm after injuring himself in a cycling accident.

U2 was slated to kick off a week-long residency on TV's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday (17Nov14), but they have been forced to cancel after the frontman hurt himself in New York City, where the show is taped.

A message from members The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen, Jr. posted on their website reads, "It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time - we're one man down.

"Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it. We're sure he'll make a full recovery soon, so we'll be back! Much thanks to Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the show for their understanding."

The band, which helped launch Fallon's first show in February (14), was scheduled to be the musical guest every night until Friday (21Nov14).

There has been no word on whether U2 will reschedule the performances or who has been tapped to replace them for the five open slots on the show.
