Billy Ray Cyrus defends daughter amid naked video fuss
Billy Ray Cyrus has defended his daughter amid fresh criticism surrounding her provocative new Wrecking Ball video.
Miley Cyrus hit the headlines yet again on Monday (09Sep13) when the promo, in which she appears naked swinging on a large, chained metal demolition ball, was released online.
Critics were split on the racy video, which smashed viewing records
on website VEVO, and many felt the 20 year old was showing too much
skin and behaving badly in front of her fans.
The promo shocker came out just days after Cyrus stunned MTV Video
Music Awards viewers with a raunchy dance routine, during which she
stripped off to reveal rubber underwear and then 'twerked' and
gyrated in front of performance partner Robin Thicke while making
suggestive facial expressions and waggling a large foam hand in the
Blurred Lines singer's crotch.
But Achy Breaky Heart singer Billy Ray is supporting his daughter
throughout the media fuss, just a week after he pulled out of a TV
interview with Piers Morgan, during which he was expected to talk
about his daughter's VMAs antics.
In a statement to Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday (11Sep13), he
says, "I'm a song man. A musician, singer-songwriter who loves all
styles of music... but I come from the old school, where it starts
with an artist and a song... colliding if you will... in a moment
where the song, the singer, the producer, the band and the listener
become one.
"It wouldn't have mattered if Miley would have worn jeans and a
flannel shirt... a tux... or a nun's habit. The song's a smash and
her performance vocally on the tune reflects her roots and sheer
God-given talent."
