Beyonce video game lawsuit goes to trial

Written by . Published: May 12 2012

A New York judge has given video game bosses the green light to pursue legal action against Beyonce for allegedly pulling out of a business deal at the last minute.

Last year (11), the Halo singer hit with a lawsuit from bosses at Gate Five, alleging she had inadvertently put 70 staff out of work after "abruptly abandoning" her plans to release Starpower: Beyonce back in December, 2010, just three days before executives were due to firm up negotiations with investors.

The pop star's lawyers applied to have the case thrown out, but Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Charles Ramos rejected the request this week (begs07May12) and ruled Gate Five chiefs could press ahead with the lawsuit.

He told Beyonce's legal team, "You continue to negotiate right up until the time you pull the plug. That is not going to work with me."

According to the New York Post, the case is expected to head to trial this summer (12).

The company is seeking $6.7 million to recoup the funds originally invested in the project, as well as more than $100 million in profits they claim the game would have pulled in.
