Beyonce and Solange Knowles to go head-to-head at BET Awards

Beyonce will go up against her sister Solange Knowles for top prizes at the 2017 BET Awards.


The Formation singer, who dominated the 2016 ceremony, and her sibling have both been nominated for the coveted Video of the Year prize for Sorry and Cranes In the Sky respectively, Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, and Album of the Year for Lemonade and A Seat at the Table respectively.

Beyonce leads the overall nominations with seven mentions, which also include the Viewers' Choice Award, Video Director of the Year and two for Best Collaboration for Freedom, with Kendrick Lamar, and Shining, with DJ Khaled and husband Jay Z.

Other Video of the Year nominees include Migos for Bad and Boujee, Big Sean for Bounce Back and Bruno Mars, who follows Beyonce with five nominations, for his hit single 24K Magic, and Album of the Year nominees include 4 Your Eyez Only by J. Cole, Coloring Book by Chance the Rapper, and 24K Magic by Bruno Mars.

The remaining Best Female R&B/Pop Artist competitors include Rihanna, Mary J. Blige and Kehlani, and the male equivalent is a battle between Mars, Chris Brown, The Weeknd, Trey Songz, and Usher.

In the hip-hop categories, Chance and Drake will go up against the likes of Big Sean, Future, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar for best male, while rivals Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma will go head-to-head against each other, alongside fellow nominees Cardi B, Missy Elliott, and Young M.A. for the female prize.

Onscreen talent are also recognized at the ceremony, hosted by bosses of the Black Entertainment Television network, and the Best Actress shortlist, which spans TV and movies and doesn't specify roles being honored, includes Gabrielle Union, Insecure's Issa Rae, Janelle Monae, Taraji P. Henson and Viola Davis.

The Best Actor category includes Empire's Bryshere Y. Gray, Omari Hardwick, Denzel Washington, Donald Glover, Mahershala Ali, whose film Moonlight is nominated for Best Movie, alongside Get Out, The Birth of a Nation, Hidden Figures, and Fences.

The winners will be announced on 25 June (17) at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
