Britain's X Factor winner Ben Haenow has scored the U.K.'s coveted Christmas number one single with his hit Something I Need.

The singer's One Republic cover has beaten Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars and The Pogues' festive classic Fairytale of New York to the top spot in one of the closest Christmas chart battles in years.

Haenow's charity single has become the second fastest-selling single of the year behind Band Aid 30's Do They Know It’s Christmas?

The thrilled X Factor star tells OfficialCharts.com, "To have even been in the running for Christmas number one against some of the names that were in the race and then to have actually won is incredible. I’m gonna go and have a few good drinks with my mates... I’m absolutely shocked. I can’t believe it."

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran has landed the biggest U.K. sales week on the album chart - X has sold more than 214,000 copies in the past seven days as fans rush to buy it for Christmas.
