Ben Affleck has found a way of winning back his good fortune after unexpectedly missing out on an Oscar nomination for Best Director on Thursday (10Jan13).
Hollywood insiders, critics, peers and fans alike were stunned when the movie star failed to land a mention in the category for his acclaimed movie Argo and celebrities like Bradley Cooper and Ang Lee spoke out about the snub.
Then, hours later, Affleck was left shocked again when he was named Best Director at the Critics' Choice Awards in Santa Monica, California. His film landed the Best Picture prize.
Now, the movie star believes he has found a good luck charm - courtesy of his daughter, who scribbled her dad's name on the back of his hand as he left home to attend the awards show on Thursday evening.
He made reference to the scrawl in his Best Director acceptance speech and later told members of the media, "You're going to be seeing this a lot," pointing at the 'Ben' his kid had inked on his hand.
Affleck didn't specify which daughter had given him back his mojo - he and his wife Jennifer Garner have two girls, Violet, eight, and Seraphina, who turned four on 6 January (13).
